Acting Ameer rejects proposed Digital Security Act; it would curb people’s freedom of speeches, he alleges

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 4th February, 2018 protesting and condemning the cabinet’s approval of Digital Security Act-2018.

“The proposed Digital Security Act is nothing but a heinous conspiracy to curb people’s freedom of speeches and fundamental rights.

The proposed act would restrict freedom of expression as the similar provision of controversial section 57 of Information and Communication Technology Act has been included in it. The proposed act is more dangerous than the controversial section 57 of the ICT act. But no tyrannical ruler can stay in power for long by imposing such black law. It would never bring positive consequence for any quarter as well.

Like this Digital Security Act, the government is mulling to enact similar black law one after one just to prolong its one party autocratic rule. Peoples of all classes including politicians, intellectuals and journalists are vehemently criticising this law, but the government is not paying heed to those objections. Rather they are making conspiracy to make new law just to restrain the journalist communities. Government’s role once again clarified that that they are not interested to hold a free, fair and credible election. The government is plotting to curb people’s freedom of expression and freedom of writing in order to continue its tenure without the electoral process. It is the obligation and duty of the countrymen to take stand against government’s ill conspiracies.

I am urging the authorities concerned to be refrained from enacting black law like Digital Security Act.”
