Jamaat-e-Islami declares nationwide peaceful protest demonstration on Tuesday

Police arrests Jamaat Ameer, Nayeb-e-Ameer and Secretary General; Professor Mujib condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 9th October, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer Mia Ghulam Parwar, and Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman along with some other central leaders from an in-house meeting of the party.

“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic, democratic and lawful political party. Jamaat-e-Islami follows domestic law, constitution and prevailing orders in conducting the party programs and others activities. Police has arrested Jamaat top leaders including its Ameer from an in-house meeting this evening. We are vehemently condemning such heinous role of the government.

Since the incumbent government came to the office, they have murdered several top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in a pre-planned way by convicting them in some false and politically motivated cases. As a part of the same ill plots, the highest leaderships of Jamaat-e-Islami have been arrested once again today. I want to assert that the progress and activities of the organization would not be stopped by such unjust arrest and detention. I am demanding immediate unconditional release of all the leaders including the party Chief (Ameer-e-Jamaat).

I am declaring nationwide peaceful demonstration program tomorrow demanding the release of the top leaders. I am urging all the wings and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami to implement the declared program peacefully. Besides, I am calling upon the manpower and working force of Jamaat-e-Islami of all levels to face the situation with utmost patience and endurance.”
