“Principal Maulana Muhammad Abu Taher was a strong-minded and skilled organizer. Since the student life, he has led the Islamic movement. He was the former central president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir. He arranged national worker’s conference in 1981 which created huge enthusiasm around the country. After the student life, he began his working career from Chittagong. In the organizational career, he served Chittagong city Jamaat as the secretary and later as the Ameer. He led the Islamic movement in port city Chittagong for almost 14 years. His outstanding role during this long period had helped to strengthen the Islamic movement in the entire area. Simultaneously, he will be remembered for his pivotal role in the movement for restoring democracy. To facilitate the unity among the Islamic quarters, he established a healthy communication among the religious scholars and Islamic thinkers of Chittagong.
As a noted religious personality, he performed a significant role to spread the sermon and messages of Islam. As a preacher of Islam, he relentlessly called upon the general masses towards the prescribed path of Almighty Allah. He also established lots of social welfare organization for the benefit of the people. Those organizations and institutions are still serving the nation substantially.
The name of Maulana Abu Taher is inseparably related with the history of Chittagong’s democratic movement. His involvement and complicity were always encouraging. Because of his generosity, decency and politeness, he became a respectable figure of Chittagong. Since 2001, he served Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami as the Assistant Secretary General.
He became critically sick in 2008. After suffering a decade long sickness, finally he took his last breath on 9 May night.
I am deeply saddened and shocked at his death. I am praying to Allah for him. May Allah accept all the services of Maulana Muhammad Abu Taher. May Allah forgive his errors and mistakes. May Allah bless him with Jannah.
I am extending my deep sympathy to his mournful families. May Allah help them to hold patience in this painful period.
