A session of Central Majlish-e-Shura of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held with party's Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. The Shura expressed deep concern over the deteriorated law and order and human rights situation of the country. The Shura adopted the following proposals stating that public lives and properties are not safe in the country now:
Central Majlish-e-Shura has been observing with deep concern that people of all walks including farmers, laborers, students, teachers, journalists and religious scholars are not secured. The law enforcement agencies are harassing and arresting the people in connection with false cases. The opposition leaders and activists have been re-arrested and shown arrested after securing bail in all false cases, which are tantamount to contempt of court and a clear violation of human rights.
Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been kept inside the jail for 7 months. While, Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer and renowned Islamic scholar Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee has been kept behind the bar for 13 years and Party's Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam for 12 years. Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has secured bail from the High Court but it has been suspended later on. Similarly, Jamaat`s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has gained bail for 4 times but later he was denied to get release. Despite his bail order, he is remaining imprisoned ignoring the directives of the high court. The government also re-arrested Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Maulana Shamsul Islam two times, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan two times and party's central Majlish-e-Shura member and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury for a time. Such incidents are being happened in many places nationwide.
Still, thousands of Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists are imprisoned without any proper trial. Jamaat’s central executive committee member and Dhaka North city Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin is being detained for two and half months and former MP Principal Maulana Abdul Khaleq Mondol has been kept behind the bar for more than 8 years. Central Majlish-e-Shura condemns such gross violation of law and human rights and frequent incidents of rearrests.
Brigadier General (Rtd.) Abdullahil Aman Al Azmi and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman has been kept abducted for 7 years. Besides, 25 Jamaat-Shibir leaders have been abducted. In the last 15 years, one lakh 8 thousand 709 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir have been arrested. 96,093 people were taken into police remand. The government so far, lodged 14,309 cases against Jamaat-e-Islami and 9,584 cases against Chhatrashibir. Thus, the incumbent government is violating human rights frequently. International human rights watchdogs expressed concern about the violations of human rights but the government is not paying heed to their concern.
Central Majlish-e-Shura is observing that through the controversial Digital Security Act, the authority has seized the freedom of speeches. Since 2020 to February 2023, 110 cases have been filed against 223 journalists under Digital Security Act. By misusing the law, the freedom and space of the journalist community have been squeezed. The rights to hold procession and rallies are being minimized as well. The deadline for submitting the investigation report in journalist couple Sagar-Runi has been deferred 98 times so far. A nation cannot function in such a way.
Central Majlish-e-Shura of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is urging the concerned authorities to show respect towards the law and human rights and also to release Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and all other detained and abducted leaders and activists prior to the Eid-ul-Azha.
