Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has visited the flood-affected areas of Rajibpur Upazila under Kurigram district on 22nd June morning. At that time, he distributed relief among the flood victims.
Addressing the gathering, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, Sylhet, Sunamganj, and several northern districts including Kurigram have been hit by the severe flood. This time flood caused major damage to public life and properties, including their domestic animals, cattle, and crops. The victims are running here and there in search of shelter and food. A severe humanitarian crisis has been created in these areas.
He said, “We came here not with relief. It is our custom to take a gift while visiting a house. We came here with gifts. For long days, the incumbent government has been repressing us. Jamaat-e-Islami is the victim of oppression and torture. However, despite all barriers and crises, we will continue to work for the welfare of the people. In our prayer, we seek guidance for the oppressors. You also pray for us, may Allah bless us to get rid of suppression and torture. I am praying for you. May Allah keep you safe and take this disaster away. May Allah forgive our sins.
Our fellow countrymen know that it is our tradition to stand by the poor and helpless people is the yearlong tradition of Jamaat-e-Islami. As an Islamic party, Jamaat has been doing work always for the betterment of the people. We are working hard day and night to lessen the suffering of the people. People with good conscience cannot never seat idle at this crucial time. I am urging all political parties, NGOs, social organizations, and affluent corners to come forward to serve the helpless people.
Jamaat Ameer came to know from the victims that no person from the authority has come to them so far. Quoting this reality, he said, basically for two reasons, the government did not come to you. Firstly, they do not have any responsibility to the people and secondly, they do not have the fear of being accountable to Almighty Allah. It is the duty and obligation of the government to see the problems and crises of the mass people. We are urging them to play a key role during the crisis. But unfortunately, they failed to make it happen. I am again calling upon the government to provide shelter, food, medicines, and other necessities to the victims.
Jamaat’s central executive committee member and Dhaka city South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul said, one of the 4 points programs of Jamaat-e-Islami is to facilitate the welfare of the people. As a part of that, we are trying to serve people, particularly during a crisis. Our leaders and activists are rushing here and there as per the directives of Ameer-e-Jamaat. We believe that serving the helpless people is our religious duty and we are doing it accordingly. Jamaat-e-Islami has been working to establish the rights of the people. Jamaat wants to establish such a welfare state where all citizens will get due rights and facilities.
Among others, Jamaat’s central organizing secretary Dr. Samiul Haque Faruqee, central working committee member and Rangpur-Dinajpur region’s team member Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal, Kurigram district Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin Faruqee, Nayeb-e-Ameer Dewan Aminul Islam, Dhaka city South Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, Dhaka south city’s working committee member Abdus Salam, and local leaders were present on the occasion.
