Language movement hero Professor Abdul Gafur dies; Jamaat Ameer condoles

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following condolence of message on 27th September, 2024 expressing deep grief over the death of the language movement hero, veteran journalist Professor Abdul Gafur.

In his condolence, he said, the fearless soldier of the great language movement, veteran journalist Professor Abdul Gafur passed away at the age of 95 while undergoing treatment at Azgar Ali Hospital in the capital on September 27 at 3:15 pm (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Elahi Raziun). I am deeply saddened by his demise.

He also said that late Professor Abdul Gafur, the legend of the language movement, was the editor of Sainik newspaper, the mouthpiece of the language movement, and was a very honest, virtuous and kind-hearted person. His contribution to language movement is undeniable. Professor Abdul Gafur's name is also written in golden letters in the first row of the vanguards. Despite being a brilliant student, he completely devoted himself to the language movement by skipping the exam even just two months before the honors final exam and established the dignified status of Bengali language in the world.

He said, distinguished language soldier Professor Abdul Gafur was a well-known writer, writer, researcher, educationist, cultural organizer and journalist. He has shown immense achievements in education, literature, culture, journalism and knowledge-practice. His life-long efforts and devoted contribution to our freedom movement, language movement will be remembered with due honor. It is our sincere hope that his talent, thinking, greatness, hard work, selfless sacrifice, educational ideals, and simple personality will always inspire the new generation to nurture patriotism and good spirit. At his demise, the nation lost a guardian. His emptiness is not easily filled.

In his condolence he also said, May Allah Almighty forgive and have mercy on him and widen his grave. May Allah forgive his sins and turn them into good deeds. May Allah Almighty grant him a high place in Jannah and bless his bereaved family, colleagues, well-wishers to hold patience to bear this grief.
