Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 23 February 2021 as at least five people including a freedom fighter were killed and 20 others were injured as a bus collided with a truck at Konabari of Sirajganj this morning.

A Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Jugantor Paribahan from Bogura collided with a Sirajganj-bound oil-laden truck around 8:00am at Konabari College circle under Kamarkhand Upazila of Sirajganj district that left 5 people killed including Md Fazlur Rahman (70), a freedom fighter of Shahjahanpur upazila and left 20 others injured. Off them, several are in very critical condition. I am expressing deep shock for the deceased who have been killed in the accident and extending sympathies to their mournful family. I am also praying to Allah for the quickest recovery of the injured.

In recent times, number of road accidents have increased nationwide alarmingly. This critical situation is created due to lack of proper monitoring from the concerned authority. I am calling upon the authorities to probe into the accident fairly and to take punitive measures against the involved personnel. I am also asking the concerned authorities to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured victims.

In a separate condolence message, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan stated, “I am expressing deep shock as 5 people killed and another 20 people became injured as a bus collided with a truck at Konabari of Sirajganj this morning.
