Powerful earthquake jolts Turkey, killing at least 25; Jamaat Ameer condoles

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 31 October 2020 expressing deep shock as significant number of people have been killed and scores injured when a powerful earthquake hit the Izmir province of Turkey on Friday afternoon, sending buildings crashing down and triggering what authorities have called a "mini tsunami."

25 people were killed and more than 8 hundred people became injured in coastal areas in Izmir, located in Turkey's west. at least 20 buildings in the city of Izmir alone were destroyed. Images showed vehicles crushed under the buildings and people digging through the rubble in search of survivors. We are expressing deep shock for the deceased who have been killed in this earthquake and extending deep sympathy to the government and the people of Turkey. We hope that, the government and the fellow citizens of Turkey will be able to recover the shock of this catastrophe and damages of properties.

May Allah forgive those who have been killed in this earthquake and bless them with Jannah.
