Dr Moyen Uddin, Assistant professor of SOMCH dies of coronavirus; Jamaat Ameer expresses condolences

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 15 April 2020 expressing deep shock at the death of Dr. Moyen Uddin, Assistant Professor of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital’s (SOMCH) Medicine Department.

Dr. Moyen Uddin is the first corona warrior who has sacrificed his life while providing treatment to the coronavirus infected patients. After being infected, he got admitted in a local hospital on last 5 April. As his situation deteriorates, his family members made an attempt to bring him to Dhaka. But they could not manage an ambulance and the government did not take any step to provide them air ambulance support as well.

He was a very popular doctor in Sylhet, popularly known as humanitarian doctor. He was a dedicated soul to serve humanity. He made a new history by sacrificing his life for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients. He will be remembered as an icon in the medical history of Bangladesh. The nation will recall him always as the corona warrior. I am urging the government to declare him as national hero for his utmost sacrifice. It is the obligation of the state to stand by his family now. I am praying to Allah for him, May Allah accept Dr. Moyen as a martyr. May Allah accept all his noble deeds.

I am extending my deep sympathy to his mournful families. May Allah help them to hold patience.

In another statement, Jamaat’s central Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, Dr. Moyen Uddin is the first doctor to sacrifice life for ensuring treatment to the coronavirus infected patients. I am calling upon the government him to designate him as national hero. His sacrifice will remain as an inspiration for the doctors always. I am asking the government to take over the responsibilities of his family. May Allah accept him as a martyr.
