Jamaat and Chhatrashibir men rearrested from Jessore and Joypurhat

Hamidur Rahman Azad demands immediate release of the detained party activists

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 18th March, 2017 protesting the re-arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Jessore district’s Monirampur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Liakat Ali from the jail gate on 17th March and simultaneously remonstrating the rearrest of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila Jamaat Secretary Maulana Dewan Shah Alam, Aamdoi union Chhatrashibir President Nahidul Islam Nahid, Jamaat activist Rabiul Islam and Masudul Alam on 14th March and taking them in the intelligence office and the authority’s move to show them arrest again on 16th March.

“The government is making ill conspiracies to harass and subdue Jessore district’s Monirampur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Liakat Ali and Joypurhat Sadar Upazila Jamaat Secretary Maulana Dewan Shah Alam along with 4 leaders and activists by re-arresting them after they got released following their bail.

The allegations which have been brought by the police against Jessore district’s Monirampur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Liakat Ali and the Jamaat Shibir men of Joypurhat district are completely false and manipulated. By re-arresting them from the jail gate even after their bail order and by lodging new false cases against them, the government actually showed its utmost disrespect towards the judiciary.

3 days after re-arresting the Joypurhat district Jamaat-Shibir activists, police has fabricated a false case against them claiming to recover petrol bombs, cocktail and gunpowder from them. The fact is, police arrested them from the jail gate and took them in to their custody immediate after they got released.

Then how did they get petrol bombs, cocktail and gunpowder? This drama proved that the police raised allegations against them are entirely false and concocted. They are completely innocent. This incident again substantiated that the incumbent government do not believe in democracy and rule of law. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against the torture and repression of the government.

Finally, I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including Jessore district’s Monirampur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Liakat Ali immediately.”
