4 Jamaat leaders arrested from Bogra; Hamidur Rahman Azad protests

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 5th March, 2017 protesting the unjust arrest of 4 Bogra district Jamaat leaders and activists including district Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Maulana Abdul Hakim and Kahalu Upazila Jamaat’s former Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Md. Shahidullah on 3rd March.

“The government has arrested 4 Bogra district Jamaat leaders and activists including district Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Maulana Abdul Hakim and Kahalu Upazila Jamaat’s former Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Md. Shahidullah just to harass them politically. The government has detained them without any substantial reason and caused their sufferings.

The government, without any legal cause are arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami in order to attain their ill intention of achieving wrong political interest. The authority is arresting the Jamaat leaders and workers nationwide in a selective way just to destroy the leadership of this party. The incumbent authoritarian government are nabbing the Jamaat men and torturing them severely in the name of police remand just to linger their tenure. This detached government is trying to stay in office forcefully by imposing misrule. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against the misrule of the government.

Finally, I am urging the authorities concerned to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Bogra district Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Maulana Abdul Hakim immediately.”
