Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Porwar today, 29 December, issued a statement strongly condemning and protesting the attack by terrorists on traders who were participating in a peaceful human chain against syndicate-based extortion at Karwan Bazar of the capital.
In the statement he said, “An attack on a peaceful movement is completely contrary to democratic rights and the rule of law. Where it is the responsibility of the state and the administration to take effective measures to curb heinous crimes like extortion, a terrorist attack on innocent protesting traders can in no way be acceptable.
Mia Golam Porwar demanded the immediate identification of the terrorists involved in this attack and exemplary punishment for them, and strongly urged the administration to ensure the overall security of the traders of Karwan Bazar.
At the same time, he expressed his expectation that the administration would take effective, impartial and firm measures to stop extortion and the syndicate system at Karwan Bazar as well as across the country.”
