-Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement today, on 19 December, strongly condemning the incident in which a Hindu youth was beaten to death on allegations of religious blasphemy and subsequently the dead body was set on fire in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.

In the statement, he said: “I strongly condemn the incident in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh where a Hindu youth named Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death on allegations of insulting Islam and making derogatory remarks about Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him), the greatest and final Prophet of Allah and a friend of humanity. The dead body was later set on fire.”

He further said: “This killing is in no way supported by the prevailing laws of Bangladesh. Islam never permits extrajudicial killings, mob violence, or any form of violence. If there are allegations, their resolution must be carried out through the courts—this is a fundamental principle of the rule of law.”

He added: “I call upon the government to conduct a proper and impartial investigation into this incident and to bring the perpetrators under the law and ensure their punishment.”

“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has always stood for religious tolerance, human values, and the rule of law, and will continue to uphold this position in the future as well, Insha Allah.”
