3 Jamaat leaders including Rangpur city’s assistant secretary arrested ; Secretary General condemns

-Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 16th May, 2024 protesting and condemning the unjust arrests of 3 leaders and activists from Rangpur city including city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary and Kotowali thana Ameer Anwarul Haq Kazal.

“Police has arrested Rangpur city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary and Kotowali thana Ameer Anwarul Haq Kazal unjustifiably on last 16th May at 2 at midnight. Another two activists were arrested from the street on their way to return from a demonstration. I am vehemently condemning these incidents.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic, democratic and peaceful Islamic party. Jamaat has been doing politics for the betterment of the people. It stands by the side of the people in all crisis including natural calamities. This is why, Jamaat is becoming popular day by day. People of the grassroots spontaneously support Jamaat-e-Islami and the recently held mass contact and Dawah campaign’s success substantiated such claim. The government is harassing Jamaat leaders and activists in connection with false cases as it failed to tackle Jamaat-e-Islami ideologically.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Rangpur city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary and Kotowali thana Ameer Anwarul Haq Kazal immediately.”
