-Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 23rd April, 2024 protesting and condemning the latest incident of Modhukhali Upazila in Faridpur where police opened fire indiscriminately against the agitating people that left many people severely wounded.

“On last 18th April, without any investigation, two Muslim brothers were beaten to death brutally centering a reported incident of torching an idol inside a temple in Panchapalli village of Dumain union in Modhukhali Upazila of Faridpur district. Today on 23rd April, a peaceful demonstration was organized in Modhukhali Upazila of Faridpur district protesting that heinous incident. But again, without any provocation, police opened fire against the agitating people that left many people wounded. Police’s such attacks are really inhuman, barbaric and condemnable.

Whoever have been killed on 18th April, I am praying seeking their salvation and extending sympathy to their mournful families.

I am urging the concerned authorities to probe into the incidents of Modhukhali in order to bring the offenders to the book. Besides, I am calling upon the authorities to pay due compensation to the victim families and also for taking proper measures to ensure treatment of the injured.
