Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 16th November 2023 thanking the countrymen and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami for making nationwide blockade successful on 15th and 16th November and simultaneously condemning government’s torture, repression and arrest drives.

I am thanking the countrymen and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami for making nationwide blockade successful on 15th and 16th November which had been declared demanding immediate stepdown of the government, restoration of caretaker government system, release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other political detainees and religious scholars, withdrawal of false cases and for bring the price of the essentials within people’s capacity.

Many people have become the victim of the government’s repression. Many of them have been murdered and abducted. As a part of the conspiracy for subduing the movement, the authorities have arrested 59 Jamaat leaders and activists in last 24 hours. They are being harassed in connection with false cases. I am condemning all the repressions and arrest drives of the government and demanding immediate release of all political detainees.
