Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 9th November 2023 appreciating the countrymen for making 48-hour long blockade successful and simultaneously condemning the tortures and repression of the government.

I am thanking the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and my fellow countrymen for making nationwide blockade on 8th and 9th November successful which has been declared by Jamaat and other opposition parties demanding immediate resignation of the government, release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other political detainees, withdrawal of false cases and for bringing the price of the essentials within people's capacity.

He said, this movement is not being carried away for any particular party or community. This movement is being continued to secure the rights of the people of all classes. Journalists, intellectuals and politicians are being arrested or harassed for their criticism of the government and often they are becoming the victims of secret killing. Police on 8th November opened fire against a demonstration of RMG workers whch has left one worker namely Anjura Begum killed. In last 24 hours, police arrested 64 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from various places of the country. I am condemning these arrest drives and demanding release of all detainees.

This oppressor regime has undertaken many tricky policies to foil the opposition parties declared blockade programs. The law enforcers and the ruling party cadres attacked the opposition men and vandalized many houses and establishments and subsequently shifted the blame upon the opposition. Being indulged, police are intensifying their crackdown as well. In the name of subduing the movement, the government is making brutal and inhuman repression which will be disastrous, suicidal and dangerous for the democracy and the nation. We want to warn the government saying that the people had sacrificed a lot earlier. They have overcome the fear once again and even they are not afraid of death. So, inshallah, democracy will be victorious this time defying all barriers and obstacles.
