Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 6th November 2023 thanking the countrymen and Jamaat leaders and activists for making 5th and 6th November’s blockade successful and simultaneously protesting the nationwide arrest drive and crackdown during this blockade.
“I am thanking and appreciating my fellow countrymen and Jamaat leaders and activists for making 5th and 6th November’s blockade successful which has been declared demanding the resignation of the oppressor regime, restoration of the caretaker government, release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, all other leaders and religious scholars, withdrawal of the false cases and to bring the price of the essentials within people’s capacity.
To the latest, the government has arrested BNP’s Vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu in order to suppress the ongoing movement and also for destroying the leadership of the opposition forces. Police also arrested Jamalpur district’s former Ameer Advocate Nazmul Haq Sayedee, Upazila Ameer Adel Ibn Awal and 96 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in last 24 hours. Off the detainees, there are 3 women as well. They have been arrested as the police did not find their targeted person. These activities are not only inhuman but also shameful indeed. Several days before, 6 Jamaat men have been stabbed and assaulted severely. Police on 3rd November also took renowned gynecologist and infertility expert and Islami Bank Medical College and Hospital, Rajshahi’s Associate Professor and Head of the Gynecology department Dr. Fatema Siddiqa apparently for interrogation. But they showed her arrested in a false later on which is also very condemnable. I am demanding her immediate release.
On 5th November at 9 pm, Rangpur district’s Mithapukur Upazila Pairaband Union Chairman and Vice President Rangpur district Sramik Kollan Federation, popular leader Mahbubur Rahman Mahbub was returning home after closing the pharmacy. At that time, some miscreants murdered him brutally. Earlier, on 29th October, the miscreants murdered Dr. Golam Kazem Ali and homeopathy doctor Ershad Ali in Rajshahi. I am expressing concern over these murder incidents.
These incidents prove that law and order situation has been deteriorated alarmingly in the country. We think, an organized group is trying to destabilize the country by committing such offences. The government should look after the situation and take effective steps immediately. Otherwise, the nation may turn toward anarchy. I am calling upon the government to take effective steps to ensure safety and security to the lives and properties of the people and also to bring back their confidence upon the law.
