-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 31st October 2023 appreciating the countrymen for making the first day of the 3-day long blockade of road, rail and naval ways successful.

“I am appreciating the countrymen for making the blockade of roads, railway and naval ways successful. Police has killed 2 in Kishorganj and one in Sylhet while observing today’s blockade. Police also opened fire against the agitating RMG workers in Gazipur which left another labor killed. At that time, some miscreants caused fire to another garment factory in Konabari of Gazipur district and a labor became burnt into ashes in this incident. The Awami goons stabbed two Jamaat activists in Gabtoli of the capital. Police has arrested over 100 leaders and activists today from different spots of the country including Mirpur thana Ameer Abdul Mannan. I am condemning the murders of the people by opening fire, the simultaneous repression and arrest drive. The justified movement of the opposition forces will not be subdued in such a way.

He stated that the incumbent fascist government has become desperate to stay in office by any means. They have engaged the police forces to subdue the ongoing movement for restoring democracy. In last 5 days, police have arrested over 1100 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists nationwide. Hundreds of cases are being filed against the opposition members. The government has initiated a reign of terror in the country. Besides, Awami League cadres are attacking the opposition programs and subsequently pushing the nation toward violence and anarchy. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against the misrule and injustices of the government.

I am also urging the Jamaat activists and the fellow countrymen not to be entrapped by the provocation of the government and to continue the blockade program on 1st and 2nd November as well.”
