Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive committee member and party’s publicity and media secretary Matiur Rahman Akanda has issued the following statement on 3rd October 2023 protesting and gainsaying the false information, published in a report published in Daily Star titled ‘Poet Assaulted in Kurigram’.
“Whatever is stated in the report titled ‘Poet Assaulted in Kurigram’ against Jamaat-e-Islami is false, concocted and politically motivated. I am condemning and protesting this untrue news.
We want to assert that Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. Jamaat believes in freedom of expression. Jamaat-e-Islami do not believe in the politics of attacks and assaults. Jamaat has no nexus with the news of the Daily Star. Without scrutinizing the authenticity, The Daily Star has affiliated Jamaat-e-Islami with the incident of attacking the poet of Kurigram. Such news contradicts the basic principles of journalism.
We are expecting that The Daily Star would publish this protest statement properly to minimize the confusion.
