Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Mawlana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 25th September 2023 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Pabna district’s working committee member and Sadar Upazila Ameer Maulana Abdur Rab.

“Police has arrested Pabna district Jamaat’s working committee member and Sadar Upazila Ameer Maulana Abdur Rab unjustifiably while he was going to Chapa Mosque to attend Johr prayer. There was no arrest of warrant against him. He has been arrested intentionally. I am condemning this arrest incident.

The government is continuing arrest drive nationwide across the opposition leaders and activists, particularly of Jamaat-e-Islami as they are in fear of losing power. No one is safe under the current regime. Abduction, arrest, murder and enforced disappearances have become their routine work. The whole nation has been transformed into a police state. The law enforcers are being used as a tool for implementing government’s agenda instead of preserving the citizens. But the government will not be able to stay in office by subduing the dissident views.

I am urging the government to stop torture and arrest drive and also to release all detained leaders and activists including Maulana Abdur Rab immediately.
