Jamaat-e-Islami declares peaceful demonstrations in all cities on 19th September

Mawlana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Mawlana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 17th September 2023 declaring peaceful demonstration in all cities on 19th September demanding immediate release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other leaders and religious scholars and also for restoring caretaker government system.

"The government has kept Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, others leaders and activists behind the bar in connection with some false and fabricated cases. The detained Jamaat men subsequently secure bail from the High Court. But they are not allowed to be freed. Even false cases are being filed against the deceased personnel. In last three days, 65 Jamaat leaders and activists have been arrested from various places of the country. Old aged people, women and kids are not spared from this oppression. The tortures and crackdowns of the government became intensified this time.

Jamaat and other opposition parties demand immediate stepdown of the government to pave the way for holding next election under caretaker government. The countrymen are united to press home their demands of restoring caretaker government system too. But the government is attempting to hold another farcical election keeping all opposition parties out of the process.

Under the circumstances, I am declaring peaceful demonstration in all cities on 19th September demanding immediate release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other leaders and religious scholars and also for restoring caretaker government system. I am urging all wings and front organisations of Jamaat-e-Islami and seeking the assistance from the countrymen to make the declared programs successful.
