Chuadanga district Ameer and 5 others arrested; Acting Secretary General demands condemns

- Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 11th September 2023 protesting and condemning the arrest of 6 Jamaat leaders and activists including Chuadanga district Ameer Ruhul Amin.

“Police have arrested 6 Jamaat leaders and activists from old prison premise of Chuadanga district including district Ameer Ruhul Amin, district Jamaat’s working committee member Masum Billah, Chuadanga municipality Ameer Advocate Hasibul Islam, Chuadanga district Chhatrashibir’s former president Humayun Kabir, district Chhatrashibir secretary Mohsin Ali and driver Minarul Islam Ripon this noon. There was no arrest of warrant against them. It is totally unacceptable and unexpected to arrest the leaders and activists of a party just because of political vengeance. I am vehemently condemning such arrest drives.

Government’s repression against Jamaat-e-Islami has exceeded all previous records. Jamaat leaders and activists are being harassed in connection with false cases. Jamaat men are being forced to leave their houses. Their business and other income generation activities became stopped already. Even their kids and female members of the families are not spared from repression and harassment. The authorities have created a reignof terror and panic by continuing oppression nationwide. The government is trying to linger its tenure by harassing the opposition men in connection with false and concocted case. But they will not be able to do so by continuing oppression and torture.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop torture and harassment and to release all detained leaders and activists including Chuadanga district Ameer Ruhul Amin immediately. Besides, I am insisting to establish a caretaker government and to hold a free, fair and credible election under that government.
