Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker has issued the following statement on 23rd August 2023 protesting the obstruction and attack against Jamaat-e-Islami organized peaceful demonstration and simultaneously appreciating the leaders and activists of the organization for making the pre-declared peaceful demonstration successful.
Jamaat declared peaceful demonstration came under severe obstructions on 23rd August. Police also carried out arrest drives in the houses of Jamaat leaders and activists. Despite such torture, harassment and barrier, the pre-declared peaceful demonstration became successful nationwide. I am hailing the countrymen and Jamaat leaders and activists for making the programs successful.
Police have carried out arrest drives in houses, offices and business institutions of the Jamaat leaders and activists in various districts. During the raid, the furniture and other accessories were vandalized. In some occasions, the family members faced inhuman and humiliating behavior. Even the old aged family member, women and kids were tortured mentally. Centering the demonstration, police continued arrest drive in different places of Jhinaidah district and detained 6 people including central Majlish-e-Shura member and Maheshpur Upazila’s former chairman Maulana Abdul Hie and former UP chairman Fakir Ahmad, Fakirhat Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Tayebur Rahman, 8 from Bagharpara of Jessore district, 4 from Chuadanga district, 3 from Narshingdi district, 6 from Lalmonirhat district, 2 from Sirajganj district, and one from Birampur of Dinajpur district. In last 24 hours, more than hundred Jamaat leaders and activists nationwide.
Bhola Sadar’s Digholdi union Jamaat Ameer Moulovi Sekandar Ali came to Dhaka to see his detained son. But he was also arrested along with his two sons. Huge number of polices were deployed in various parts of the city which caused a situation of panic and fear. I am severely condemning such torture, repression, harassment and brutal activities of the ruling party cadres.
The countrymen are highly dissatisfied and there is extreme resentment toward the government. In fear of losing power, the authority has lodged false and concocted cases against the opposition leaders and activists, particularly of Jamaat-e-Islami. The consequence of suppression can never be better for anyone. No government in the history could stay in power by murdering and torturing people and the incumbent government will not be able to do so as well.
I am urging the concerned authorities to stop harassment and unjust arrest drives and to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir immediately.
