Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 2nd August 2023 protesting and condemning the arrest of around 50 leaders and activists from different places of the country only on 1st August.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s 50 leaders and activists from various places of the country on 1st August only. Jamaat men are being harassed regularly. Even getting the targeted man in the house, the law enforcers have misbehaved with the other family members. We are condemning such unjust activities of the law enforcement agencies.
After successfully holding processions nationwide on 28th and 30th July, the law enforcers started harassing the leaders and activists of Jamaat activists through massive arrest drive. On 1st August, the law enforcers arrested around 50 Jamaat leaders and activists including 16 from Mymensingh, 4 from Satkhira, 3 from Chittagong north district, 4 from Faridpur including Sadar Upazila Ameer, one from Comilla and one from Jessore.
Raids are being carried out in the houses of Jamaat leaders. Even, the law forcers misbehaved with the female members of the family which is really shameful. The law enforcement agencies are being used of repression of the ruling party instead of curbing the crimes. We want to assert that, the ongoing just movement cannot be subdued by oppression and torture. The countrymen are united against the ruling tyrant regime.
I am urging the concerned authorities to stop harassment and torture and also to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir immediately.
