Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum issued the following statement on 26th April 2023 protesting and condemning the arrest of Sirajganj district Jamaat Ameer Shahinur Alam.

“Sirajganj Sadar thana police arrested district Ameer Shahinur Alam in front of the livestock hospital on 26th April morning. No warrant had been issued against him earlier. He has been arrested unlawfully. I am condemning such arrest drive of the police force.

No person is safe under the regime of the incumbent autocratic government. Abduction, enforced disappearance, harassment, and arrest have become routine work for this government. The whole nation has been transformed into a police state. Instead of discharging their regular duties, law enforcement agencies are being used as a tool of oppression by the government. However, we want to assert that, people’s just movement can never be subdued by such arrest drive and repression.

I am urging my fellow countrymen to raise their voices against this tyrannical government. Besides, I am calling on them to stop oppression and to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Shahinur Alam immediately.
