Doctors, nurses and healthcare staffs are still in want of government’s declared financial stimulus; Secretary General urges to pay immediately

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 27 October 2020 urging to pay all the due payment of the financial stimulus to the doctors, nurses and healthcare staffs who were involved with the activities of providing treatment and services to the coronavirus affected patients.

Bangladesh is the second most Covid-19 affected country of Asia. Our doctors, nurses and healthcare staffs are the frontline warrior in tackling this pandemic. Putting lives at severe risks, they have provided treatment to the patients and still they are serving the nation. After the pandemic began in last March, the government declared to provide special incentives to those people who are in extensive war against coronavirus. The government also added that if any healthcare staffs get affected with this virus, a health insurance, worth of 5 to 10 lac taka will be made in his/her favor. But they will get 5 times more money if they expire. But even after such declaration, the government did not pay them due money so far which is painful and shameful. According to Bangladesh Medical Association, BMA till 25 October, some 2852 doctors, 1966 nurses and 3266 healthcare staffs became affected with coronavirus while serving the patients.

I am urging the concerned authorities to pay all the dues immediately among the doctors, nurses and healthcare staffs who are providing treatment and services to the coronavirus affected patients.
