Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar distributed reliefs and other assistances among the victims on 29 May 2021 in cyclone Yaas affected area of Golakhali under Ramjan Nagar union of ShamnagarUpazila in Satkhira district.
At that time, he said, the people of the coastal areas have lost their houses, properties and various establishments during the cyclone Yaas which took place on last 26thMay. Such a huge loss would not be fulfilled. We will not be able to meet it up. But we will try to remain by your side as much as we can. Someone is living in brick made high rise buildings, while many of you are totally ruined. Insha Allah, you will recover again with the grace and mercy of Almighty Allah. We have to hold patience and seek support from Allah only. Only Allah can remove our sufferings and miseries.
To tackle the adverse impact of cyclone Yaas, the government was supposed to take more effective measures including the rehabilitation of the people and constructing embankments. But the coastal residents have been neglected always. The reliefs and assistances which have come in these areas on behalf of the government, are not sufficient. He urged the solvent people of the society and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to help the cyclone victims.
Mia Golam Powar said, in every such calamities, the policy makers of the government are making some verbal assurances. We have heard the names of various mega projects. But none of those projects have been implemented so far. We want permanent solution like sustainable embankments. If the government fail to do so, they should declare the area as abandoned and relocate these people somewhere else.
