The affluents are obliged to stand by the side of the helpless people. We have come to you with some gifts as per our limited capacities, which are just a little in comparison to your requirement. You need more assistance. The government is responsible to help the people during crisis. But the incumbent government did not come to you as they are unelected and they do not have any accountability to the people. We are urging the rich and affluent corners of the society to take a stand by the side of the helpless and impoverished people.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman said this while distributing food among the flood victims in Chittagong city on 11th August. Chittagong city Ameer and Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Mohammad Shahjahan presided over the program which was hosted by city secretary Principal Muhammad Nurul Amin.
Professor Mujib said, Almighty Allah is the only sustainer. If we can follow His rule, maintain life and society in accordance with His doctrine, then He will bestow blessings upon us. He will open new opportunity for us. The society will be full of progress and prosperity. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is making that effort. So, we have to make effort to launch Allah’s rule in the society to lead the way toward welfare. We should feed the hungry people, extend medical care to the helpless patients and extend hand to the people who are in danger.
He claimed, if the incumbent government were a pro-people government, they cannot play such passive role during the disaster. The basic feature of a good government is they love the people and the people also love them. If Jamaat is given the power, they will love the people. The authority which came to the power through rigging and intimidation, they can never be a good government. So, you should elect the government by considering all these realities.
Addressing the gathering, central executive committee member Mobarak Hossain said, during the disaster, the government was supposed to stand beside you. But instead of doing that, they are torturing and repressing us. So, we cannot help and assist you as per our responsibilities. Being trapped into critical condition, we are here before you with limited gift items. Please pray for us so that we can expand our welfare activities more.
Chittagong city Ameer and Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Mohammad Shahjahan said, disasters and crisis come from Allah. Nothing happens beyond His knowledge. 27 wards of Chittagong city, southern part of the Chittagong district and Cox’s Bazar have been submerged. People are waterlogged in many areas. We pray to Allah to normalize the situation. You are passing days in troubles. We have come to you with some gifts. Please pray to Allah so that we can serve and help the people in greater extend.
