Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 4th June 2023 expressing deep shock as around 300 people have been killed and 1,000 are injured in a crash involving three trains in India's eastern Odisha state.
Several carriages from the Coromandel Express, travelling between Kolkata and Chennai, derailed in the Balasore district after hitting a stationary goods train. Several of its coaches ended up on the opposite track. Another train travelling in the opposite direction - the Howrah Superfast Express travelling from Yesvantpur to Howrah - then hit the overturned carriages. The force with which the trains collided has resulted in several coaches being crushed and mangled which left another 300 people killed and another 1000 injured.
On my personal behalf and on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am extending deep shock to the government and the people of India. I am also expressing sympathy to the victims’ families. I am also praying for the injured.
The casualties and damages caused by this accident will not be managed easily. However, I am expecting that the Indian people and its government will be able to overcome these tough days shortly.
