Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 22nd July 2023 protesting and condemning the repeated incident of burning the holy Quran in Sweden.
“The incident of burning the holy Quran by a man in Sweden on 20th July is very hateful, insulting and provocative. It should be mentioned that earlier 21st January of this year, a copy of the Quran was burnt in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden, then again same incident took place in front of a mosque on 28th June in Stockholm and to the latest this incident of burning the holy Quran on 20th July. We have been observing that in the name of freedom of speech and civilized norms, derogatory incident against the holy Quran is being taken place in Sweden repeatedly. We are vehemently condemning these incidents.
We also have been observing with deep concern that, conspiracies are being plotted against Islam and the Muslims in various countries across the world. The Muslims are being tortured and persecuted. As a part of the same conspiracies, the holy Quran is being burnt repeatedly which is a severe blow against the religious sentiment of the people. We want to assert that such a kind of offence is not acceptable at all in the name of freedom of speech. Hurting the religious sentiment of a community can never be treated as a democratic or civilized act. Such a nonsense activities is not causing hatred and negative repercussions only but also paving the way for violence.
We are urging the Swedish government to take stern legal measures against those people who were involved with the incident of burning the holy Quran. Besides, we are asking OIC and the Muslim world to raise voice against the ongoing conspiracies against Islam.
