Jamaat Ameer Maulana Nizami verdict any day
Wednesday, 13 November 2013
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Wednesday said that it will delivered the verdict on the war crimes case against Jamaat Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami at a later date.
The defence for Maulana Nizami failed to appear before the tribunal for the fourth straight day to submit their closing argument and a junior defence lawyer Md Asad Uddin filed a petition seeking an adjournment for a day on ground of personal difficulties of his senior lawyer.
The 3 member tribunal headed by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir rejected his plea and said it had closed the arguments and had been keeping the judgement ‘CAV’ (curia advisari vult or reserving the judgement until a later time).
The tribunal however, directed the defence to submit their written closing argument within five days.
On May 28, 2012 the tribunal indicted Jamaat chief Maulana Nizami for 16 counts of genocide and crimes against humanity.
On June 29, 2010,  as a irony of fate, Maulana Matiur Rahman NIzami, the chief of country’s biggest Islamic political party was arrested after a magistrate court in Dhaka issued warrant of arrest  in case of hurting the religious sentiment of the people.
Later on July 22, the tribunal shown him arrested in connection with war crime case.
