Fakhrul’s motorcade comes under attack in Chittagong

A group of miscreants vandalised at least five vehicles of a motorcade of Bangladesh's main opposition BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in Rangunia upazila of Chittagong this morning.

Fakhrul, who was leading a five-member delegation of the party on way to Rangamati, was also hurt in the incident that took place around 10:40am, Syrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNP chairperson's media wing, told The Daily Star this morning.

The BNP delegation was scheduled to visit landslide-ravaged areas of Chittagong and Rangamati later in the day.

After the attack, the party cancelled the trip to Rangamati and started to return to Chittagong.

The death toll in landslides stood at 150 in five hill districts including Rangamati, the worst affected area where 112 people died so far.
