Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair protests against the vague and misleading remarks in Nahid Islam’s Facebook status

-Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair issued the following statement today, 19 October protesting the vague and misleading remarks made in a Facebook status by the Convener of the National Citizens’ Party Nahid Islam.

In the statement, he said: “In a Facebook post, Nahid Islam criticized one of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s key demands the proportional representation (PR) system in a manner that is both vague and misleading. His comments, in which he described Jamaat-e-Islami’s movement for proportional representation as fraudulent and a mere political tactic, are completely false and regrettable. It is unclear to us what exactly he intended to imply through such statements. The nation does not expect such childish and irresponsible remarks from him.

He further stated that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has clearly demonstrated its firm position before the people both in the discussions of the Consensus Commission and on the streets in demanding that the July National Charter be given legal recognition. Therefore, Mr. Nahid Islam’s statement has no logical or factual basis.

I call upon Mr. Nahid Islam to refrain from making such misleading remarks.”
