Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, issued a statement today, September 23, condemning and protesting the false and vindictive remarks of Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, published under the headline: “Jamaat is putting pressure on BNP in regards to PR for not giving 30 seats.”
In his statement, he said: “Recently, in an interview with the Kolkata-based daily ‘Ei Samay’ of India, BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made certain remarks about Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami which have come to our attention. It is difficult for us to believe that a veteran politician like Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has made such utterly false, disgraceful, and vindictive comments. These statements have no relation whatsoever with truth or decency. If indeed these remarks were made by him, we are compelled to strongly protest and condemn them. At the same time, if these words are truly his, then we unequivocally call upon him to present proof before the nation, of which person or an entity Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded those seats from.
He further said: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is normally functioning under its central leadership. At present, Jamaat-e-Islami has no remotest connection with the kind of politics that involves begging seats from anyone. If he fails to provide evidence in support of his statement, then we urge him to accept the truth and at the very least, publicly express regret before the people for his remarks.
He said: Regarding the contemptuous language with which he spoke about the politics and organizational dignity of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, we leave the judgment to the people’s court. We have full trust in our beloved people. Our activities are for the country and its people. Attaining the pleasure of Almighty Allah is our ultimate goal. The true foundation of our reliance lies in the mercy and help of our Lord.
We call upon him to refrain from making such false and misleading statements in the future.
