In a statement issued on 17 August, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar strongly condemned and protested the killing of Jamaat leader Nazrul Islam in an attack by miscreants.
He said, “Nazrul Islam, President of the Sramik Kollan Federation (Labour Welfare Federation) of Ward No. 6 under Nakai Union in Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha district, has been brutally murdered by the miscreants. I strongly condemn and protest this tragic killing.”
In the statement, he further said, “The fascist government has fallen through the mass uprising of students and people. However, fascism has not yet been eradicated from the country. They have engaged in a heinous conspiracy to destabilize the nation in a planned manner. In the interest of maintaining peace and order in the country, the interim government must immediately bring the July killers to justice and suppress the terrorists with a firm hand.”
“I call upon the concerned authorities to immediately arrest the killers of Nazrul Islam and ensure exemplary punishment for them. At the same time, I pray seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of Nazrul Islam and express my deepest condolences to his bereaved family members.”
