Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair protests false report of several dailies against Jamaat-e-Islami

-Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair issued a statement on 26 July condemning and protesting strongly against the false information disseminated in several national dailies based on a report of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), which claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami, by expressing partial support, has endorsed the use of the Bengali alternative “Bohosongskritibad” (multiculturalism) instead of “Bohuttobad” (pluralism).

In the statement, he said, in the report titled “US Concerned About Religious Freedom in Bangladesh”, published in several national dailies on 26 July, referring to the United States federal agency named “United States Commission on International Religious Freedom” (USCIRF), it has been reported that Jamaat-e-Islami, by expressing partial support, has endorsed the use of the Bengali term “Bohosongskritibad” (multiculturalism) instead of “Bohuttobad” (pluralism). This information is not correct. We strongly condemn and protest this false information.

In the statement, he further said that what has been stated in the report by Seema Hasan, South Asia analyst of the USCIRF, regarding Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, is entirely false. It has not even a trace of truth.

In the statement, he further said, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, we sat in dialogue with the National Consensus Commission and demanded the reinstatement of “complete faith and trust in Almighty Allah” and “Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim” in the Constitution of Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority country. This demand was published in widely circulated national dailies on 26 June.

He further said that on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, during a midday briefing with journalists amidst the sixth day of the second phase of discussions with political parties organized by the Consensus Commission at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher made this demand. Dr. Taher also said, “Except for CPB and one or two leftist parties, most of the parties have agreed with this proposal of Jamaat-e-Islami.”

We call upon all concerned parties, including Seema Hasan, South Asia analyst of the United States USCIRF, to refrain from disseminating false reports against Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. We also hope that they will properly circulate this protest and thereby resolve the confusion, created centering this report.
