Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement on July 11 expressing deep concern, grief and condemnation over the brutal murder of a scrap metal trader named Mohammad Sohag.
In a statement, he said, “On Wednesday, July 9, at around 5:30 pm, a scrap dealer namely Mohammad Shohag was brutally murdered as the killer hit him on the head with a stone in front of Mitford Hospital in Dhaka. They not only stripped Sohag naked after killing him, but also danced on his body and celebrated. This murder in broad daylight by hitting him on the head with a stone in front of hundreds of people has even surpassed the days of ignorance. People are speechless at the brutal murder. Such barbaric killings are rare in a civilized society.
He also said that some dailies have reported that some leaders of the Chawkbazar thana Jubo Dal had demanded a large sum of money from the deceased Sohag. The Jubo Dal terrorists carried out this murder for not getting money. The question of the countrymen is, what is the politics that the leaders of the party that nurtures extortionists and terrorists talk about? How safe are the lives and property of the people in the hands of that party? If this party comes to power, the country, nation and state can never be safe. In this incident, the footsteps of that fallen fascism are being heard again. The government must suppress these miscreants with a strong hand and take effective steps to maintain peace and order in the country.
He said, "I pray to Allah Almighty seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of the deceased Sohag and express my deep condolences to his bereaved family and relatives. At the same time, I urge the concerned authorities to quickly arrest those involved in this brutal murder and bring them to justice and take strict legal action immediately."
