Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and coordinator of Comilla-Noakhali region, Maulana ATM Masum issued a statement on June 6, strongly condemning and protesting the brutal murder of Maulana Kawsar, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and imam of a local mosque in Chandraganj thana under of Lakshmipur district by local terrorists.

In the statement, he said, “Maulana Kawsar, the president of Ward No. 1 of Bangakha Union of Chandraganj thana in Lakshmipur district and the imam of the local mosque, was brutally murdered by local terrorists while 3-4 of his family members were seriously injured in this tragic terrorist incident. They are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. I strongly condemn and protest this incident.

He also said that on Thursday, June 5 at 11:00 am, a terrorist group led by local terrorists Kamal Member, Babul, Roni, Rocky, Sumon, and Riaz attacked the house of Momin Ullah Master in Rajibpur village of Bangakha Union of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. Jamaat-e-Islami leader unit president and imam of the local mosque, Maulana Kawsar (55), was killed in the incident. (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun) I pray for the forgiveness of his soul and also pray that Allah Almighty grants the status of martyrdom to our dear brother. I also pray to Allah seeking patience for his family.

He said, "Even after fascism has been defeated, the countrymen are still continuing to fight for a Bangladesh free of fascism and terrorism. And it is not the people's expectation that any new person or party should adopt the character of the fascist force. The law is equal for all. Therefore, we hope that the administration and political parties will provide all-out cooperation to ensure due punishment for the criminals and the terrorists and murderers.

We strongly urge the concerned authorities to immediately arrest the murderers of Jamaat leader and mosque imam Maulana Kawsar and to ensure their exemplary punishment."
