Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued the following statement on March 3 expressing deep shock over the fire that broke out at Saudia Hotel in Shahjadpur, Dhaka on March 3 that killed 4 people.

“I express deep shock over the fire that broke out at Saudia Hotel in Shahjadpur, Dhaka on March 3, which left 4 people dead and caused extensive property damage. The tragic death of 4 people in a hotel in broad daylight is very painful. I hope the government will conduct a fair and impartial investigation into this accident, and subsequently will take legal action against those responsible, and take necessary preventive measures to prevent such tragic accidents from happening again in the future.

I pray to Allah to accept those who died in this fire as martyrs and express my deepest condolences to their families and pray that Allah will grant the bereaved families the strength to bear this great loss.

I strongly demand from the concerned authorities to provide appropriate compensation to the families and relatives of those who died in the fire.”
