The Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar, issued a statement on February 21, calling for the mass sit-in program in front of the office of the Chief Advisor on Tuesday, February 25, from 2 pm to 4 pm, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ATM Azharul Islam.
In the statement, he said that the Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, ATM Azharul Islam, has been detained in prison for more than 13 years in false and fabricated cases, filed by the then fascist government. After the fall of the fascist government, many leaders and activists of the anti-fascist political party have been released. The countrymen had hoped that ATM Azharul Islam, a victim of extreme oppression and torture, would also be released in a dictatorship-free Bangladesh. But despite the passage of almost 6 and a half months since the interim government took charge, ATM Azharul Islam has not been released. The countrymen are shocked and surprised by this incident.
A public sit-in program will be held in front of the office of the Chief Advisor on Tuesday, February 25 from 2 pm to 4 pm demanding immediate release of ATM Azharul Islam. Honorable Ameer-e-Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman will be present in the program as the chief guest. On behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, we are appealing to the countrymen to participate spontaneously in the said public sit-in program and ensure the immediate release of ATM Azharul Islam.
