Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central publicity and media secretary Matiur Rahman Akanda issued a statement on October 31 protesting and gainsaying the false information against Jamaat-e-Islami published in a report presented in the online version of Daily Prothom Alo titled '12 killed in political violence in October, including 9 of Awami League'.
"On October 31, in the online version of Prothom Alo, quoting the Manobadhikar Sangskriti Foundation (MSF), several false information against Jamaat-e-Islami that was published in the report titled '12 killed in political violence in October, including 9 of Awami League'. There is no basis of such report. A part of the published report states that, 'out of 58 incidents of violence, 37 .......... 2 incidents occurred between BNP-Jamaat.' In another part of the report, it is said that 'BNP and Jamaat are directly involved in the death of four out of the seven Awami League victims. The entire claim is absolutely false.
In another part of the report, it is said that "on October 21, Chhatra League activist Aftab Uddin Tahsin (26) was shot and killed publicly in Chittagong by people known as Shibir cadres." The fact that the name and identity of the killer is not specifically mentioned in the report which proves that this is a false information. It has no basis in reality and law.
The above-mentioned incidents prove that the fictitious and false report against Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir has been published with the aim of creating confusion in the public mind. Our clear view in this regard is that Jamaat-e-Islami does not believe in the politics of murder. Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic, democratic and peaceful Islamic political party. People cannot be misled by providing false information against Jamaat-e-Islami.
I am drawing the attention of the correspondent of Daily Prothom Alo to be refrained from serving false information against Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir. At the same time, I call upon the concerned authorities of Daily Prothom Alo to remove the confusion by publishing this protest statement properly.”
