Two leaders including a BNP leader killed; Hamidur Rahman Azad condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General and former MP AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on September 14, 2024 condemning and protesting the murders of 2 people, including BNP's Central Shechashebok Dol Sports Secretary Shaukat Ali Didar.

"On Friday, September 13, BNP's wing organization Shechhasebak Dol President SM Jilani, was attacked on his way to home in Tungipara. When his convoy reached Ghonapara in Gopalganj at around 4 pm, local Awami League leaders and activists attacked and brutally beat Shaukat Ali Didar to death. Didar was the Sports Secretary of BNP's Central Shechashebok Dol. Another person died on the way when he was brought to Dhaka for better treatment. 50 people were injured in this attack, including president of Central Shechashebok Dol SM Jilani and his wife Roshan Ara Ratoa, president of Gopalganj District Mohila Dol, leader of City’s Shechashebok Dolleader, Sabuj. This incident is extremely demonic and cowardly. I condemn and protest this incident. TV photojournalist HM Manik was beaten up as well and his camera was vandalized while trying to capture the images of the attack. I also condemn this incident.

He also said, I am praying for the salvation of the departed souls of the victims. At the same time, I express my condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.

I appeal to the authorities concerned to arrest the troublemakers and killers immediately and take strict legal action against them.”
