Central Publicity Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Matiur Rahman Akanda has issued the following statement on 9th August, 2024 protesting and gainsaying the false report published in the online version of Daily Prothom Alo under the title 'Professor Anwar Hossain under attack'

"Our attention has been drawn to the above-mentioned report that claimed about the incident of attacking Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain at the airport on last 5th August. There is no chance or question for any Jamaat leader of attacking anyone. On last 5th August, hundreds of thousands of students protested across the country including Dhaka. The so-called attack on Professor Anwar Hossain at that time by some Jamaat men cannot be correct.

It is fact that many people tried to convict the Jamaat leaders by giving false testimony against them in the tribunal. Jamaat leaders have been hanged based on those false testimonies and evidences in some fabricated case. However, there has been no incident of Jamaat activists attacking any witness to date. We have entrusted to Allah for His judgement for all the false witnesses and controversial judgments. There was not a single incident of harassing any prosecution witness so far.

We sympathize with him if anyone attacked him during the fall of the dictator regime. But blaming Jamaat for the attack is nothing more than a political slur. We strongly protest the published report of Daily Prothom Alo and appeal to the newspaper authorities to publish our protest statement in order to clear the confusion.
