Ban Awami League not Jamaat-e-Islami under anti-terrorism law, reacts 12 party alliance

The 12-party alliance strongly condemned and protested against the government’s decision of banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir under section 18/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

In a statement sent to the media today, the head of the 12-party alliance and the chairman of the Jatiya Party, Mustafa Jamal Haider said that, “the government gazette to ban Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir has proved once again that there is no democracy in this country anymore. On behalf of the 12-party alliance, we strongly condemn and protest this decision.

He said that if any political party is to be banned under Section 18/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, then Awami League must be banned first. Because Awami League openly conducts terrorist activities in this country. This recent decision of the fascist government has paved the way to ban the politics of Awami League in future.

Mustafa Jamal Haider said, we are shocked and surprised to observe that Awami League decided to ban Jamaat in a meeting of 14 party alliance. With this decision, the incumbent undemocratic and unelected government created another black chapter in the political history of Bangladesh. It is our question to the people, is there any requirement to take permission from Awami League for conducting democratic politics in Bangladesh?
He said that the government has banned Jamaat without any reason. They may also ban all democratic political parties one by one including BNP in future in the same way. Awami League wants to establish a one-party governance system with its subservient quarters. This undemocratic decision of the government is not acceptable to us at all. I strongly demand for revoking this decision immediately.

The aforementioned statement was signed by the alliance head and Jatiya Party Chairman Mr. Mustafa Jamal Haider, Alliance’s Spokesperson Bangladesh LDP Secretary General Shahadat Hossain Salim, Jamiat Ulamaye Islam Bangladesh Secretary General Mufti Golam Mohiuddin Ikram, Bikolpo Dhara Bangladesh Chairman Professor Nurul Amin Bepari, Jatiya Democratic Party Jagpa’s Vice President Rashed Pradhan, Bangladesh Jatiya Dal’s Vice Chairman Md.
