Jamaat Ameer condemns government’s unconstitutional decision of banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1st August, 2024 strongly condemning and protesting against the executive order of banning the politics of Bangladesh's oldest traditional democratic party 'Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami' and 'Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir' by violating the constitution.

The government carried out massacres by engaging party cadres and law enforcers across the country to suppress the non-political movement of the student community. Country's teachers, cultural personalities, journalists and people of different professions are protesting against this mass killings of the government. The world community has condemned recent massacre. The government wants to divert the ongoing movement by banning 'Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami' and 'Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir' through an executive order to cover up their misdeeds.

Jamaat-e-Islami is a complete Islamic movement. Jamaat-e-Islami has been working in a systematic, democratic and peaceful manner in independent Bangladesh. Jamaat has played a constructive role in the education and health sectors to serve the humanity. Jamaat stands by the poor and helpless people. It has played an important role in establishing the rule of law, justice and human rights in the country. Jamaat has participated in every acceptable election in Bangladesh and it had representation in those parliaments. Jamaat’s two ministers have set a unique example of honesty, integrity and transparency while running important ministries. Jamaat has always stood by the affected people in all natural calamities of the country including floods and cyclones.

Jamaat has played a historical role in every democratic movement in Bangladesh. Jamaat-e-Islami placed the concept of the caretaker government system to secure the voting rights of the people. Three consecutive fair and acceptable elections have been held in the country under Jammat proposed caretaker government system. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami always remained strong against militancy, terrorism and extremism. Six Jamaat leaders lost their lives in militant’s bomb attacks for taking a stand against militancy. Jamaat has no nexus with terrorism and anarchism.

The government has been oppressing Jamaat-e-Islami for the past 16 years. Jamaat has faced all those adverse situations with patience. As a result, people's sympathy, love and support for Jamaat have increased. Jamaat is an organization of crores of people. The constitution of Bangladesh gives all citizens the right to assemble and organize. The government has violated the constitution by banning 'Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami' and 'Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir'. We strongly condemn and protest this unconstitutional, undemocratic and unjust decision of the government.

The main activities of Jamaat-e-Islami are calling the people towards Islam, reforming people’s character and establishing the noble principles of Islam in the society and it will never stop even if the government bans it. I appeal to all levels of manpower of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to deal with the situation with patience and tolerance. The government’s efforts to shift the blame for the recent massacre and violence upon the opposition parties have failed already. However, they may try to increase their efforts to blame Jamaat-e-Islami by creating some untoward incidents. The countrymen should be careful in this regard. You should not fall into the trap of the government.

Jamaat-e-Islami conducts a movement to establish the noble ideals of Islam in this country. Earlier, Islam and the Islamic movement had faced many such blows but those attacks could not stop this movement. Similarly, no one, even the current regime, will be able to stop this Islamic movement, InshAllah.

I appeal to every citizen of the country to systematically raise their voice to protest against the government's mass killings, disregard of human rights, oppression and the latest unconstitutional decision to ban 'Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami' and 'Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir'. At the same time, I call upon the world's democratic countries, institutions, human rights organizations and organizations and the conscience of the world to condemn the undemocratic activities of the incumbent dummy government of Bangladesh.
