Acting Secretary General condemns Bridge Minister’s false, baseless and fictitious remark against Jamaat-e-Islami

-Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 27th July, 2024 strongly condemning and protesting the baseless, false and fictitious statements made by Awami League General Secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader against Jamaat-e-Islami.

In a statement, he said, "I strongly condemn and protest the baseless, false and fictitious statements made by Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader against Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which he has made in a press conference held at Awami League's Dhanmondi office on 26th July. In response to Obaidul Quader's baseless and false statement, I would like to inform that the current movement for quota reform is exclusively the movement of the student community. The whole nation has extended its support for this student movement. In order to suppress the peaceful movement of the student community, the government has engaged the law enforcers along with the cadres of Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League with lethal weapons. They fired bullets, charged baton on the protesters and hurled tear shells and created an anarchic situation by killing, injuring and arresting the young students. The government imposed a nationwide curfew and ordered protesters to be shot on sight. The Awami League-led government and their party's terrorist cadre force’s have to take all responsibilities for the events, which have been taking place in the country since last 14th July.

The government has destroyed the country's resources worth thousands of crores of taka by creating sabotage in order to subdue the peaceful movement of students inhumanly. The biggest proof of such claim is, Chittagong city Sramik League leader Sohel Rana was arrested after setting fire to 4 buses in a contract of 4 lakh taka. The government itself has destroyed the country's resources and structures by going on a terrorist rampage. The government also has as usually launched the tricky strategy of blame game against the opposition once again. They are trying to accuse Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir of creating violence in bid to hide their ugly and brutal face.

Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir leaders and activists and other members of other opposition parties are being arrested and abducted recklessly. The political detainees have been taken into police remand and they have undergone through severe torture in custody. Even the injured student leaders were taken from the hospital and subsequently faced inhuman torture. All these are the vivid example of violating human rights. Obaidul Quader is making false statements against opposition parties including Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir with a nefarious purpose of hiding the terrorist attacks of the government. But this time, the countrymen are well-informed and connected and such ill-tactics will never mislead them. This government will have to face prosecution for their misdeeds one day.

Therefore, I am calling upon Awami League General Secretary and Bridges Minister Mr. Obaidul Quader to be refrained from making baseless and false statements against Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir.

We want to further that, another report has been published on the front page of daily Ittefaq on 27th July, saying that Rajshahi Jamaat members took part in the Dhaka riots. This report is also completely baseless, fabricated and false. There is no truth information in this report. I strongly condemn and protest this report as well.”
