-Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 25th April, 2024 protesting and condemning the latest incident as Gazipur city’s Awami Jubo League activist Khorshed Alam, Mokhlesur Rahman and other activists detained 5 Jamaat leaders and activists and subsequently handed over to the police.

“On 24th April at 10 pm, Gazipur city’s Awami Jubo League activist Khorshed Alam, Mokhlesur Rahman and other activists captured 5 Jamaat leaders and activists of Gazipur city and subsequently handed over them to the police. The detained persons are Golam Idris (42) ward president, Abdul Hie Hadi (48) ward team member, Alamgir Hossain (32) member, Ahmed Ali (50) activist and Abdul Wadud (35) activist. Police lodged a case under special power act against all the detainees and produced them before the court. The court denied their bail plea and granted two-day remand against them. Later, they all sent to the jail. I am expressing deep concern and resentment over the incident.

The whole nation is suffering extremely due to massive corruption and bribery of the government. The citizen’s morality has been degraded as well. Under such circumstance, Jamaat-e-Islami is trying to make the citizens patriot, honest and qualified. Jamaat calls the people toward the path of Allah and makes effort to correct them. This is one of the basic activities of Jamaat-e-Islami. Right now, Jamaat is observing mass contact and Dawah campaign nationwide. As a part of the campaign, Gazipur city Jamaat leaders and activists were working and at that time, they were arrested. The incident of such arrests is condemnable, inhuman and unexpected. We are demanding immediate release of all detainees.”
