As a part of the ongoing anti-government movement, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 30th October 2023 declaring rail, road and waterways blockade across the country from 31st October to 2nd November.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP and other opposition parties had declared grand rallies in the capital on 28th October. But instead of assisting the program, the law enforcers arrested many leaders and activists from various spots who attempted to join the rally. The law enforcers searched the passengers in buses, launches, trains and other transports and arrested people indiscriminately. Police also hurled tear shell against the opposition activists and charged baton against them. 4 people including journalists and opposition men were killed in these incidents. Centering the grand rally, police arrested more than 2000 Jamaat leaders and activists nationwide.
Under the circumstances, we are declaring rail, road and waterways blockade across the country from 31st October to 2nd November demanding immediate restoration of the caretaker government system, release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, other leaders and religious scholars, curbing the price hike of the essentials and violence and mayhem of the ruling party goons.
I am urging the leaders and activists of all wings of Jamaa-e-Islami and the countrymen to implement the blockade program peacefully for the sake of the country.
