20 Jamaat men including Rajshahi west district’s former Nayeb-e-Ameer arrested; Acting Ameer condemns

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 6th October 2023 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrests of some 20 Jamaat leaders and activists including Rajshahi west organizational district’s former Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdul Ahad Kabiraj.

Abdul Ahad Kabiraj is a veteran and respected politician. Police have arrested him unjustifiably without any arrest warrant as a part of a heinous conspiracy. Police also arrested Shahbag thana Jamaat Ameer Ahsan Habib and 9 others following a peaceful procession on last 4th October. In another incident, police arrested 20 Jamaat activists from various places of the country including Cumilla district’s Debidar municipality Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Zakir Hossain. I am vehemently condemning all these arrest incidents.

He said, Jamaat’s peaceful demonstration demanding the release of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, other leaders and religious scholars and also for restoring the caretaker government system. As a part of the centrally declared programs, peaceful demonstration held nationwide in all Thana and Upazilas. To foil these programs, police carried raids in houses, offices and business institutions of the Jamaat leaders and activists. They also tried to frighten the family members which are very objectionable. The incumbent fascist government has turned the entire nation into a giant prison by the means of tortures and oppressions.

Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic Islamic political party. It is the constitutional right of a party to hold meeting and procession. No one has the right to deprive a party from availing such rights. But Awami League do not believe in democracy. They want to subdue the dissident voice. The countrymen have no confidence upon this government. They do not want to see this repressor regime any more. I am urging the countrymen to raise voices against the undemocratic activities of the government.

I am calling upon the government to stop and torture at once and also to release all detained leaders including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Abdul Ahad Kabiraj immediately.
